YOUTH ALONG THE PATH - (A Paraphrased Experience of Father J. Corapi of S.O.L.T.)

j0186.200.wmf

Father Corapi, visiting 'Big Sky Country' was trying to find a church in a parish. It was a bright sunny day and the sun was upon his face. He did not know which way to turn. Faithfully, he stood still in prayer for heavenly guidance.
After his vigor was restored, he set out again. From the road ahead, he noticed two indistinct figures approaching. It became clear, within moments of a half-mile he was seeing two young males, about eight or nine years of age. They both wore wide-brim, cowboy hats as a protection from the hot Wyoming skies. Father Corapi smiled, and slowed to a stop. '"Hello" he said to them. "Can you tell me where I can find Saint Barbara's Church?" One boy responded, curtly, "Why?" Father Corapi replied "I have a 3-day mission at the church and if you like, you can come too." "What is a mission", the boy asked? Father Corapi calmly answered, "A mission is where I tell people how to get to Heaven". In reply, the young boy looked from under his wide-brim hat, face scorned, and stated "Are you kidding Mister? How can you tell people how to get to Heaven when you can't even find Saint Barbara's church?"

BOOK REVIEW

SUGGESTED READING: The Rise of Benedict XVI, by John L. Allen, Jr.
When Pope John Paul II grew older and his health began to fail him, everyone wondered who would be the next Pope. What will he be like. This book summarizes the new Pope's writing on his views, interwoven with many interviews with cardinals. He is considered to be a conservative member of the College of Cardinals. There is a lot of information on the new Pope's past challenges as a German amidst the secularity of Europe. The book clues readers as to what type of Pope Ratzinger will be as he faces the challenges of a changing church and the fall of many priests to sexual misconduct. The Rise of Benedict XVI provokes a speculative look at the New Papacy.
